In the small island of the Dominican Republic, the "Sunshine Island" International Airport has long faced issues with unstable power supply from the grid, causing significant inconvenience due to flight delays for travelers.

In order to address this challenge, airport executives decided to implement a solar power generation system to ensure a 24-hour uninterrupted and stable power supply.

Choice of Partner: Namkoo Solar Engineering Installation Company, with its outstanding technical expertise and experience, emerged as the chosen partner for the airport.

Project Scale and Design: Following on-site surveys, Namkoo proposed an innovative design to install a total area of 3,000 square meters on the airport roof, utilizing a total of 6,636 units of 550W flexible modules, achieving a total power of 350KW. The system also included 2 units of 150KW hybrid energy storage inverters and a 1MWh energy storage battery box. The use of flexible solar panels, hybrid inverters, and solar optimizers enhanced the system's efficiency.

Key Figures and Locations:

Project Leader: Maria Gonzalez, airport executive. Implementing Company: Namkoo Solar Engineering Installation Company. Project Location: Dominican Republic, "Sunshine Island" International Airport.

Engineering Implementation and Challenges: During the implementation process, Namkoo faced several challenges, with the most notable being the irregular shape of the airport roof.

Maria Gonzalez: The shape of this roof is indeed somewhat troublesome. Namkoo, do you have any solutions?

Namkoo Engineer: We suggest using 550W flexible solar panels. These panels can adapt flexibly to the irregular roof shape, ensuring the maximum utilization of the installation area. Additionally, flexible modules are 60% lighter than traditional ones, suitable for roofs with irregular structures such as car roofs, wooden roofs, and glass roofs.

Maria Gonzalez: That sounds promising. Let's proceed with your recommendation.

Environmental Challenges and Natural Difficulties: Apart from technical challenges, the project also faced environmental issues on the island, including frequent sea winds and corrosion from seawater.

Maria Gonzalez: Namkoo, in addition to the irregular roof shape, we must consider the impact of strong sea winds and seawater corrosion on the island. Can you handle that?

Namkoo Engineer: Certainly, we have selected corrosion-resistant materials that have undergone marine environmental adaptability testing, ensuring the solar power system remains stable in harsh natural conditions.

While this technological choice brought additional challenges, it required the team to be more cautious and patient during the installation process. However, through the efforts of Namkoo's professional engineering team, they successfully overcame these challenges, ensuring the efficient operation of the entire system.

Advantages of Energy Storage: The energy storage system played a crucial role in the entire project, offering the following advantages:

Namkoo Engineer: The energy storage system not only ensures power supply during the night or cloudy days but also helps balance the fluctuations in solar power generation, improving the overall efficiency of the system.

Maria Gonzalez: This means we can overcome the issues with unstable grid power, right?

Namkoo Engineer: Yes, the energy storage system can quickly respond to grid power fluctuations. In the event of a grid power outage, it swiftly switches to the energy storage system, ensuring the airport always has a stable power supply without being affected by grid instability.

Maria Gonzalez: That's exactly what we need. We can't tolerate flight delays due to power outages. The reliability of the energy storage system is indeed a significant advantage of the solution.

Results and Operational Status: After three months of installation testing, Namkoo successfully delivered the entire solar power system. The system has been running smoothly for six months, providing stable power to the "Sunshine Island" International Airport. The airport company and the local government highly appreciate Namkoo's innovative solution and professional contribution. This case not only serves as a success story for local solar projects but also highlights the significant advantages of energy storage technology in improving the efficiency of renewable energy utilization while overcoming challenges.
